Technical University of Denmark in Nordic university alliance

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has entered a new collaboration with four Nordic technical universities with the aim of making their shared competencies in research, training and innovation more visible on the international scene. In addition to DTU, the new alliance, Nordic Five Tech, consists of Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway) and Helsinki University of Technology (Finland).  

 

Lars Pallesen, rector of DTU comments: "If the Nordic region is going to make an impact internationally, both in research and the globalised education market, it requires that the leading universities join forces both regionally and globally. The establishment of Nordic Five Tech is the kick off for this. Each university, as well as the Nordic countries, will be in a stronger position when the region's best technical universities develop a closer collaboration. It will benefit students, research and the Nordic commercial sector."

 

The joint universities have 60,000 undergraduate students, 7,500 researchers and 4,500 postgraduate students. The new alliance will also give the students better opportunities to combine their training by having periods of study at several universities. The areas of study offered will also be expanded due to the different university competencies. The news was reported by professional journal Ingeniøren (The Engineer).
